Report Writing
Aim
This course raise awareness of the communication process and develops skills to enable the production of clearer and more effective reports.
Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- identify and overcome problems encountered in writing reports
- organise and structure information for effective report writing
- produce written reports with clarity and accuracy
Course Content
The course (standard) will cover:
- types of reports
- preparing and collecting information for a report
- the structure of a report
- a report writing task
- the importance of language, style and tone
- writing with clarity
- checking and redrafting
- layout and presentation
- organising complex information
- using illustrative material
- referencing
- writing summaries and extracts
Assessment
The approach will be highly participative and will combine tutor led sessions with practical exercises. Group activities will focus on the problems encountered in report writing and will identify ways to overcome them. Example reports from the workplace may be used for discussion and example.
This course is suitable for those who have to write reports as part of their job either to internal or external clients.
Report writing courses can be tailored to meet specific requirements in terms of content and duration.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements but some experience of report writing would be desirable.
